Third in a series of four. Paper collage with décollage on 5 x 7 canvas board. Antique papers, gel ink transfers, mica splits, charcoal, beeswax finish. Text at lower third from Gloria Steinem’s 1993 book, Revolution From Within. --- Kindly featured by
I'm thinking over 18...I keep track well at first, and then the organization tends to get lost as I'm steaming into port. So to speak. Not all the excavation happens through the total number of glue-downs, though. I selectively excavate as I go along, depending on what I'm trying to develop. So some of the papers of layer 1 are revealed, but some layers are completely covered up still (visible only through x-ray machine, ha!).
six, maybe seven layers have been my limit so far, (no longer a newbie at this, but still far from claiming mastery over the techniques used here and in bost of your other works) I'll be able to experiment more (eventually) as i manage to gather additional supplies and collage related tools. finally found a few rolls of washi tape locally this morning...really looking forward to using this on a few projects...saw a lot of colors and patterns i can use.
I love washi tape but the problem is I just look at it. Can't bear to use any supply that I've paid good money for, it turns out. A real hangup. That's why I don't buy anything new anymore and hunt in thrift stores instead...latest greatest find was a 1937 Look magazine with a 1957 Look magazine buried inside, along with a bunch of random papers of the same vintage. This was in California...and the guy in the shop asked me if I would mind paying $1, as it was for a good cause (animal rescue). I gave them a donation along with the price of the paper....
Defiantly worth what you paid for along with the donation, love critters myself and miss having them around the house (can’t afford it right now, sort of claim my parents eight year old lab, whom I call my ‘fuzzy brother” (long story) I’m currently buying a lot of old readers digest condensed books for both the illustrations and the hardback covers (some of which are really nice) the actual stories are useful once I start separating them from the page one line at a time (very tedious) for later use as elements for found poetry …at least that is my intention...i’ll send most of these strips out to collaborators…since I have no shortage of old discarded books (that’s one of the hazards of living near a used book store that throws out the books they don’t want in a huge bin for anyone to snatch up…) the rolls of washi tape i have is pretty small and narrow, but will work well for the card designs i intend to use them on. i gather the rolls you are eluding to are much wider, prettier, imported and therefore much more expensive...still want to get my hands on a few rolls of the really good quality washi...maybe later.
*grin* it's pretty close, (maybe a ten minute drive) i'd go there every day, if i had enough storage space to hold all the books i'd collect from there. have found some amazing things in that cast away box... still using things from over a year ago. my dining room floor and table have stacks of books on them, many topics mostly hardback, (not wimpy stacks either, although not as many on the table since it would collapse (yes, i have that many books)
such an awesome series
