Desert Mavericks pg 5 by LauraTringaliHolmes Desert Mavericks pg 5 by LauraTringaliHolmes
The table of contents is a fascinating page. Authoress Ganson assigned roles to her characters, but this is the first and only time the roles are referred to. I was particularly taken by the "plebian despot."

The little hinge at the top, which attaches the card to the page, flips up to reveal hidden surprises, including an editorial comment by me. Photo of schoolgirls courtesy of *hoaxeye. The "La Mode" tag comes from a card of really old buttons, which, as the tag points out on the back, are washable.

The hinge and round, magnifying glass-ish empty circle is amazing. Yes, "plebian despot" is an intriguing title!

Nice work. There is something so fascinating about old books, their feel, touch and smell. And your use of ephemera enhances and creates a wonderful world, often transporting the modern reader back in time... which is wondrous.

In person, Desert Mavericks adds a whole other layer to the interaction, as it threatens to come apart in your hands! Actually it is really stable where it counts, but looks are definitely deceiving. I am getting some flaking acrylic paint, but I like it. Adds to the interactivity, I feel, to withdraw one's hand with a few specks on it! Showtime this Friday! Should freak out a few people, those paint specks, I'm betting!
