Desert Mavericks pg 1

Here's where the fun began! Authoress Ganson concentrated on animal cartoons, but the poems she wrote to accompany them definitely focused on human foibles, which you will see as you continue. I urge you to read her poems and enjoy her cartoons. Some are quite sly. From the beginning, I saw my job as enhancing what was already there on the page before me. I was already putting on the mantle of co-author, strange as this may sound. So to Ganson's animals and poems, I added people and elements, to tell the story from a human viewpoint. The big cowgirl holding a rifle and hat repeats throughout...so watch for her! It is her story that I decided to tell, albeit abstractly. This photo shows the packing-tape reinforcement around the pages as well as the scuffing off of the paper on the pages. Each of Ganson's text and animal elements were coated with several layers of gel medium on both sides before they could be trusted to stay whole, more or less.
